Retailers with subscription services are everywhere and sell in every retail category. The successful ones are generating some solid revenue streams, including a handful that were either acquired (Dollar Shave Club, Plated.com) or went public (Stitch Fix, Blue Apron and HelloFresh). Below is an analysis of more than 50 subscription-based retailers, when they launched and in which category they sell. Additionally, we identify the largest digitally native vertical brands with subscription services.


What’s more, Internet Retailer analyzed 75 companies that sell their own products primarily online, often called digitally native, vertically integrated brands. The 75 companies generated $8 billion in online sales in 2017, but nearly $3 billion of those sales came from 11 retailers that operate a subscription model.
