A San Francisco digital pharmacy has a new name and $23 million in funding to expand nationally.

Alto Pharmacy is the new name for ScriptDash Pharmacy, a digital pharmacy company that offers doctors and clinics an easier back-end system to fill prescriptions and an expedited delivery service for consumers.

Alto has raised $23 million in funding from a group of investors including Greenoaks Capital, DST Global, Jackson Square Ventures and others to expand nationally, beginning with Los Angeles. The company didn’t release details on its expansion effort, but to date Alto says its prescription management app for healthcare providers and patients has been utilized by 5,000 providers at California health systems such as UCSF Medical Center, John Muir Health System, Sutter Health and others.

Alto, founded in 2015, offers San Francisco area patients free prescription delivery and automatic refills. Patients who require a prescription can use the Google or Apple app to have the prescription processed electronically and delivered within two hours of their appointment. Patients can access Alto customer support by phone, e-mail or text message.

Digital pharmacy startups have been catching the eyes of digital healthcare investors in recent weeks. Last week a mobile healthcare company whose app helps consumers expedite prescription refills and delivery raised $2 million in new funding.

NowRx, which calls itself an on-demand pharmacy and is based in Mountain View, Calif., will use the money to further automate its prescription fulfillment program and develop more analytics for drug utilization review, a process for reviewing, prescribing, dispensing and using medication.
