GroupBy says it will now be able to offer retail clients a more data-driven shopping platform.

Search engine marketing and site search vendor GroupBy Inc. has acquired retail analytics software developer and shopping platform Edgecase.

Edgecase uses product data to bring about relevant search results. The acquisition, announced Monday, will allow GroupBy to increase its product data knowledge and offer its e-retail clients a more comprehensive data-driven e-commerce platform. The vendors did not disclose a price for the deal.

“Solving the relevancy issue associated with e-commerce site search and ultimately delivering a vastly improved user experience is now a reality for the retail industry as we join GroupBy together with Edgecase,” GroupBy CEO Roland Gossage said. “In the increasingly competitive world of digital commerce, we have seen incredible success with our Searchandiser platform with some of the world’s leading online retailers. Now, with Edgecase, we are able to compound those efforts with a level of product data intelligence that is unparalleled in today’s market.”

Edgecase provides several Internet Retailer 2017 Top 1000 retailers with its services, including Crate and Barrel (No. 78), Pier 1 Imports Inc. (No. 120) and Lancome, which is a part of L’Oreal Group (No. 276).

GroupBy also has several Top 1000 clients, including Urban Outfitters Inc. (No. 40), CVS Caremark Corp. (No. 106) and Fathead LLC (No. 435). The companies also said they share mutual undisclosed clients.
