EMCO provides a wide array of electrical, mechanical, fluid power and automation products to customers that design, manufacture, or upgrade machinery.

DALLAS, May 24, 2017 — Generational Equity, a leading mergers and acquisitions advisor for privately held businesses, is pleased to announce the sale of its client, EMCO Inc., to Motor City Fastener Inc., a platform company for private equity firm Oakland Standard Co. The acquisition closed February 6, 2017. Details were not disclosed.

EMCO, founded in 1954, provides a wide array of electrical, mechanical, fluid power and automation products to customers that design, manufacture, or upgrade machinery. EMCO also provides inventory management programs, inventory kitting programs, manufacturing services, and engineering and technical services. It is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Oakland Standard, a Michigan-based private equity firm investing in lower middle market industrial businesses, saw EMCO as a good add-on to a platform company in its portfolio, Motor City Fastener.

Based in Hazel Park, Michigan, Motor City Fastener is a wholesale distributor of industrial fasteners, fittings, abrasives, tools, personal protective equipment and related items. In conjunction with another location in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the company provides the Greater Detroit industrial community with inventory management solutions designed to increase productivity, lower inventory and create supply chain visibility. It is also ISO-9000 certified.

Generational Equity Executive Managing Director Bill Kushnir established the relationship with EMCO, and Generational Equity Managing Director Julie Sandoval’s team, headed by Sr. M&A Advisor Genell Boyer and supported by Generational Equity Vice President Mark Breheny, led the deal to a successful close.

“This deal went smoothly due to the rapport and respect between buyer and seller,” said Boyer. “The seller saw the ‘big’ picture between the two companies’ ability to gain more market shares by being able to cross-sell to its current and future clients. It was a win-win for everyone.”
