(Tampa Bay, FL) January 20, 2015 – Global Risk Technologies, a leading risk-mitigation firm in the payment-processing industry, has appointed Monica Eaton-Cardone as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the company and its subsidiaries, Chargebacks911 and eConsumerServices. Eaton-Cardone assumes full oversight of the company’s information technology (IT) operations, taking on the CIO role in addition to her existing executive leadership duties as co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Chargebacks911. Among her first initiatives as CIO will be expanding the technology platform that hosts Chargebacks911’s dispute mitigation and risk management services, in order to support institutions and overseas channels.
Eaton-Cardone’s appointment as CIO of Global Risk Technologies is significant given that the percentage of women in IT and executive management is substantially lower than the overall proportion of women in the workforce. According to a recent report published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), women make up 47% of the total U.S. workforce; however, just 28.6% of computer and information systems managers are women. The BLS findings also revealed that while women represent 38.2% of management occupations, only 26.8% of chief executives are women. (1)
Another source indicates that the percentage of women in IT executive leadership is lower still. The 2014 Harvey Nash CIO Survey found that among responding companies, only 11% of U.S. organizations had a female CIO — a figure that drops to 7% worldwide. And 71% of the survey respondents stated that women are under-represented in their IT departments. (2)
“Monica has been a driving force behind the success of Chargebacks911 and eConsumerServices since their inception, and she has always played a key role in developing and implementing the technology for our brands,” said Gary Cardone, co-founder, president and CEO of Global Risk Technologies. “Her appointment to CIO formally recognizes her technological contributions and leadership, and I am confident our IT strategy will continue to evolve and thrive as Monica introduces our services to a global audience.”
Citing her own career progression, Eaton-Cardone asserts that women don’t need a computer science degree to enter and advance within the IT field. She parlayed an educational background in art and architecture into employment as an interior designer, and later into the launch of her first business, Resort Furnishings. In subsequent business enterprises, she cultivated skills in direct-response techniques for customer-retention campaigns, operated multiple call centers and became an Internet retailer — and in all of these ventures, she taught herself how to apply and develop relevant technology.
After 15 years of serving other merchants, Eaton-Cardone became a merchant herself and subsequently gained a very expensive education in payment processing. She envisioned a simple, dynamic solution that could address payment-processing challenges; and since such a product did not exist in the market, she then learned the technology required to develop it herself.
“I guess you could say that I am a self-taught expert in managing chargebacks, analyzing risk relativity and helping businesses create a sustainable model for payment processing. My goal as CIO is to leverage the technological innovations and success of Chargebacks911 to further solidify Global Risk Technologies’ reputation as a worldwide leader in dispute mitigation and risk management (http://globalrisktechnologies.com/),” explained Eaton-Cardone.
As an accomplished business leader and champion of women in IT, Eaton-Cardone has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and events. She will address the topic of friendly fraud as an official speaker at the upcoming Merchant Risk Council (MRC) e-Commerce Payments & Risk Conference (http://vegas.mrcevents.org/), which will be held March 23-26, 2015, in Las Vegas. She will also discuss the challenges of card-not-present (CNP) transactions at the 2015 CNP Expo (http://cardnotpresent.com/cnpexpo/) in Orlando, which runs May 18-21. In addition, Chargebacks911 is the official sponsor of the CNP Boot Camp that will be held during the event. Eaton-Cardone is available for future speaking engagements.
