Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) — Naked Wines Ltd., the online wine retailer founded by former Virgin Group Ltd. executive Rowan Gormley, is looking at ways to raise capital to help fund an expansion, said two people with knowledge of the matter.
Naked Wines is working with Cavendish Corporate Finance LLP to assess options including selling a stake to private-equity firms, said the people who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. No final decision has been made and the company may look at other options for capital raising, said one of the people.
Naked Wines, based in Norwich, England, links customers with independent wine makers for a monthly investment of 20 pounds ($33) to help them buy wines for as much as 50 percent off retail prices, according to its website. Gormley, who founded Naked Wines in 2008, was previously head of Virgin Wines and Virgin Direct, now Virgin Money, part of U.K. billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Group Ltd.
A spokesman for Naked Wines declined to comment, and a spokesman for Cavendish did not respond to telephone and e-mail requests seeking comment.
