The social network’s hiring of Philippe Dauman Jr. comes less than a year after it added Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard as its director of commerce.

Twitter Inc. has hired Google Inc.’s Philippe Dauman Jr. as  director of commerce partnerships.

Dauman had worked at Google since 2007, most recently as head of partnerships for Google Wallet’s Instant Buy division, according to his LinkedIn profile. Instant Buy is a Google program that lets consumers who have signed up for Google Wallet check out in Android apps without having to manually enter their billing or shipping information.

The hiring, which Dauman announced today in a tweet, continues the social network’s e-commerce push that began last year when the social network hired Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard as its director of commerce. And the social network continues to build its commerce team. Twitter’s job board shows that it plans to add more commerce-related positions, such as a senior commerce partnerships manager who will work with the social network’s product and engineering teams to develop commerce products.

Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo suggested during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call that the social network was developing new commerce programs. For instance, Twitter might let consumers buy directly on the social network via its Cards platform, which lets marketers pay to add audio, video or images to a tweet to help drive engagement.

“[Cards] will be the vehicle through which we think about commerce opportunities,” he said.
