The vendor will incorporate GoPago’s mobile point-of-sale software and services into its portfolio. DoubleBeam says the deal will let it offer merchants an integrated point-of-sale and mobile commerce platform across bricks-and-mortar, online and mobile channels.

Mobile payments technology vendor DoubleBeam Inc. has acquired GoPago Inc., a mobile point-of-sale software and services provider that enables retailers and restaurants to use card reader-equipped tablets and smartphones to check out customers. GoPago also allows shoppers to use an app to order and pay for goods and services before they arrive at a business.

DoubleBeam says it will incorporate GoPago’s mobile point-of-sale software and services into its portfolio, and that the deal will let it offer merchants an integrated point-of-sale and mobile commerce platform across bricks-and-mortar, online and mobile channels.

“We are very excited about the synergies between Doublebeam’s leading mobile commerce solutions and the mobile point-of-sale systems that GoPago brings to the table,” says Ted Tekippe, CEO of DoubleBeam. “The complementary capabilities of these technologies will bring a unique and holistic solution to the retail industry. It’s exactly what our customers have been asking us for.”

The move came less than a week after reports surfaced that Amazon.com Inc. had acquired GoPago. A report on the technology site TechCrunch last week suggested Amazon actually bought GoPago’s technology, engineering and product teams, but not its existing point-of-sale business, which is the part of the business that DoubleBeam acquired. None of the three companies—DoubleBeam, GoPago nor Amazon—responded immediately to requests to comment on that report.

DoubleBeam’s move is part of a growing interest in using mobile devices to accept payments in stores. For instance, online marketplace eBay Inc. last week acquired StackMob , a mobile app developer, to enhance its mobile payments offerings, including in-store mobile payments.
