Stripe makes accepting online payments easy for Bigcommerce’s 35k retailers

AUSTIN, TX and SAN FRANCISCO, CA — July 16, 2013 — Bigcommerce, the leading e-commerce platform for fast-growth businesses, today announced a partnership with Stripe, the easiest way to accept credit cards online. The new integration with Stripe’s Connect platform enables the more than 35,000 merchants using Bigcommerce to accept online payments in minutes — not days or weeks.

Many entrepreneurs who run online businesses know that taking payments isn’t all that easy. Merchant accounts, payment gateways, forms to fill out and activation waiting periods can lead to frustrations, especially when you’re just starting out and want to make money fast. Stripe’s solution is simple and fully integrated into the Bigcommerce platform, making it easier for businesses to accept payments from customers directly on their own site.

“Our focus is to help growing businesses expand their sales online and Stripe makes it dead simple for them to accept credit cards,” said Mitchell Harper, co-founder and co-CEO at Bigcommerce. “Combined with our simple onboarding wizard to get your store up and running, Stripe now makes it possible for new Bigcommerce merchants to get a beautiful online store live and transacting in under 30 minutes.”

How it works:

  • When Bigcommerce users enable payments with Stripe, their customers will enter credit card details directly on the merchant’s site, and won’t be redirected to an offsite checkout page. Stripe takes care of the rest, transferring payments directly to users’ bank accounts. Existing Stripe users can connect their account to Bigcommerce in two clicks.
  • Stripe’s pricing is simple and straightforward — 2.9 percent plus $0.30 for each successful transaction— with volume discounts available. There are no hidden fees, business owners know what they’re going to pay upfront, and they don’t have to worry about incurring new fees as their business grows and relies on more features.

“Bigcommerce has enabled tens of thousands of businesses to sell online,” said John Collison, co-founder and president at Stripe. “It’s easy to see why — it’s a very elegant product. We’re thrilled to partner with them to make it even easier for businesses to be part of the online economy.”
