The online marketplace will offer eight limited-time sales per week.

EBay Inc. today began offering what it calls exclusive sales from flash-sale retailer Rue La La via a site accessible through the online marketplace.

“Rue La La on eBay” will involve eight sales per week, each lasting 48 hours and featuring items not available at the same time on the Rue La La site, says Jeff Somers, eBay’s vice president of fashion and home.

EBay will list the sales on its fashion home page—ebay.com/fashion—and offer three sales on Monday, three on Wednesday and two on Friday. While all shopping takes place on eBay, Rue La La handles the shipping and returns, Somers says. “Rue La La is well known and well regarded in the industry in their ability to serve customers well,” he says. eBay will take a cut of each sale, though Somers would not disclose the percentage eBay will earn.

Consumers “can use their existing eBay member ID to access the sales,” an eBay spokeswoman says. “They don’t necessarily need to provide an e-mail address on top of that.”

Rue La La says that 40% of its sales originate from mobile devices, and eBay is making sure those mobile-commerce fans are well served. Consumers accessing the sales from their mobile devices can click on the e-mail offers and shop via a mobile-optimized site, Somers says. Consumers also can download the eBay fashion app and shop from there, he says.

Rue La La on eBay launches after the online marketplace earlier this month overhauled its site, a move that followed the September introduction of eBay’s new logo.
