Amazon.com Inc. said today it will build a warehouse in Jeffersonville, IN.  The fulfillment center will employ up 1,050 workers and open in the fall, says Amazon, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

“This is Amazon’s fifth Indiana facility, and the company is employing thousands of Hoosiers,” said Gov. Mitch Daniels. “We’re grateful for every one of those jobs. These facilities will serve customers across the country, further cementing Indiana’s position as the country’s logistics capital.”

Amazon in January announced a deal with Indiana that required the retailer to eventually collect sales taxes for online purchases; as a result of the deal, Amazon said it would proceed with plans to invest in new distribution facilities.

Amazon operates similar facilities in Indianapolis, Whitestown and Plainfield; the Jeffersonville warehouse will give Amazon more than 4 million square feet of distribution space in Indiana, the e-retailer says.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. will give Amazon up to $2 million in tax credits and $300,000 in training grants for its Indiana distribution push.

At the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition 2012 in June, John Haber, founder and CEO, Spend Management Experts, will speak in a session entitled “The Free Shipping Tightrope.” The IRCE $200 early-bird discount expires March 31.
