Amazon.com Inc. is testing a new delivery option for consumers in urban areas. The Amazon Locker delivery program lets consumers in Manhattan, Seattle and London select at checkout a local pick-up location for their online orders. Packages are then delivered to secured lockers installed at local retail shops where a consumer can pick them up after entering a code that unlocks the locker containing his delivery.

In Seattle, Amazon Lockers are installed at two 7-Eleven convenience stores, a Rite-Aid drug store and five other locations. New York locations include two Rite-Aid drug stores, three Gristedes grocery stores and five other locations. London locations, for orders placed via Amazon.co.uk, include shopping centers and convenience stores.

Consumers in or near Seattle, New York or London who opt for delivery to a locker select from the locations during the checkout process and receive an e-mail that contains a code that unlocks the locker holding the package once it is delivered. A consumer enters the code on a touch screen at the locker terminal to open his locker and retrieve the package. 

Amazon says many items sold or fulfilled by Amazon.com can be delivered to an Amazon Locker location so long as they fit in a locker. Lockers come in multiple sizes. Packages sent via Amazon’s free super-saver delivery are not eligible for locker delivery, Amazon says.
