Best Buy’s tech support is now available no matter where shoppers buy a computer.

The Geek Squad is now only a phone call or mouse click away. Best Buy Co.’s computer technology and support unit has launched “Ask An Agent,” a computer technology support service available to consumers whether they bought a device from Best Buy or another retailer.

Until now, computer owners had to bring their machines to a Geek Squad location in a Best Buy store or have a Geek Squad member make a house call. Now Best Buy computer purchasers get six months of the Ask An Agent service automatically and can get 10% off future services if they keep their accounts active. Non-Best Buy computer owners can buy six-month access for $19.99.

In addition, Geek Squad customers can receive a PC Check Up—an online service that scans their computer—that provides a report assessing computer performance and protection from external security threats. Phone and online access is authorized when the customer enters the 19-digit code on his Ask An Agent identification card.

Best Buy is No. 10 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
