Kellwood Co., an apparel manufacturer and retailer, has announced that it has completed its purchase of Adam, a maker of trendy women’s and men’s clothing and accessories. The purchase of Adam is the first in a series of “aggressive acquisition plans,” according to Kellwood.

Adam apparel is sold at ShopAdam.com, Adam stores and department stores Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. Adam Lippes, a New York fashion designer who previously worked for luxury apparel companies Polo Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta, founded the fashion line.

“We’re thrilled to add Adam to Kellwood’s growing portfolio of brands,” says Michael Kramer, CEO and president, Kellwood.  “Adam has great potential for expansion across major product categories and international markets.”

Kellwood owns and operates fashion brands such as Phat Fashions LLC, No. 322 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. The company didn’t name other labels on its current shopping list, but in January 2010 Kellwood acquired Isis, a women’s outdoor apparel e-retailer.
