With more than half of its business from repeat customers, one way that computer products and consumer electronics retailer Geeks.com keeps shoppers coming back is by offering a $10 gift certificate to try a third-party loyalty rewards program, vice president of business development Peter Green says.
Shoppers on Geeks.com who complete a purchase receive on their order confirmation web page an offer for a $10 gift certificate if they click to sign up for a 30-day free trial of an online rewards program from WebLoyalty.com Inc. The gift certificate is good for the shopper’s next purchase on Geeks.com.
“We have a certificate redemption rate with the high-80s, low-90s percent range,” Green says. “It provides an incentive for customers to come back and shop with us.”
WebLoyalty says it pays its affiliate retailers $13 for each customer that signs up for its rewards program, in addition to funding the $10 gift certificate.
Customers who sign onto the WebLoyalty rewards program can apply the $10 gift certificate toward any size order on Geeks.com within 90 days, then send a proof of purchase to WebLoyalty to receive a check from WebLoyalty.
Green says that Geeks.com, No. 174 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, does 55% to 60% of its business with repeat customers. He attributes the repeat business to having a “loyal, tech-savvy customer base” in addition to special offers like the WebLoyalty certificate offer. So far this year, overall sales are up about 7% over the same period last year, he adds.
WebLoyalty’s rewards programs offer discounts on consumer products and travel services from more than 500 e-commerce sites.
