Such large retailers as Walmart, Macy’s and Kroger in the U.S. and Cdiscount and Kingfisher in Europe are creating their own online marketplaces. They’re aiming to offer more merchandise to better compete with Amazon for consumer loyalty.

To do that, they must attract third-party sellers by demonstrating strong website traffic and promising robust sales and rapid payouts. A new survey of marketplace sellers shows what these merchants value and what it will take for these new marketplaces to attract and retain them.
