Retail chain giant Macy’s is cutting more than 10,000 employees as it restructures operations, closes roughly 100 stores, and takes a more omnichannel approach. The store closings began in mid-2016 and are expected to be completed by mid-2017. “Our omnichannel strategies continue to evolve based on the changes in our customers’ shopping behaviors, including a focus on buy online, pick up in store and mobile-enabled shopping,” CEO Terry Lundgren said in early 2017. Store sales for Macy’s declined in the holiday period of November 2016 and December 2016, while online sales to two of its primary online sites, Macys.com and Bloomingdales.com, grew by double digits year over year.
