Home décor retail chain Kirkland’s marked its 50-year anniversary in 2016 but also the passing of Robert E. Alderson, a former long-time CEO and board member who successfully lead the company through an initial public offering. Kirkland’s shifted more of its ad spending to digital from print to reach more consumers, CEO Mike Madden says. “[This] will allow us to double our impressions, broaden our reach and increase frequency, all at a lower cost,” he said in a second-quarter 2016 earnings call. “A majority of our advertising in the back half [of 2016] will focus on mobile, and it will target customers with specific behaviors indicative of those with intentions to shop home décor.”
