Online apparel in 2021 and 2022

Apparel sales have had a wild ride the past few years. Store sales plunged during the pandemic and then came roaring back, while ecommerce merchants filled in the gaps and are now trying to grab on to their new customers.

In 2021, 42.2% of all U.S. apparel purchases were made online, up significantly from 33.3% in 2019. Digital Commerce 360 estimates that U.S. web apparel sales grew 15.6% in 2021 and U.S. total apparel sales grew 34.6%.
