Ron Japinga had been promoted to Guitar Center’s president from executive vice president in June.

Two months after being promoted to president of Guitar Center, retail industry veteran Ron Japinga has been promoted again, this time to CEO.

Guitar Center, which owns Musician’s Friend Inc., No. 60 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, announced Tuesday that current CEO Darrell Webb will be retiring, clearing the way for Japinga to take over. Webb was named CEO of Guitar Center in November 2014, having previously been CEO of the now defunct sporting goods retailer Sports Authority Inc.

Japinga joined Guitar Center in July 2014 as executive vice president of inventory management and supply chain before being promoted to president in June of this year. Prior to joining Guitar Center, Japinga held management positions with Macy’s Inc. (No. 6), Kohl’s Corp. (No. 19), and West Marine Products (No. 326).

“One of the key reasons I joined the team here at Guitar Center was due to its great prospects for success,” Japinga said. “We have accomplished so much since then, yet we have more to accomplish. I remain enthusiastic about the company and look forward to contributing to the strategic direction that we’ve established in order to continue that success.”

Musician’s Friend Inc. grew its online sales to an Internet Retailer-estimated $782 million in 2015, up 15% from $680 million in 2014, according to Top500Guide.com.
