Amazon veteran Goldberger joined Target in 2013.

Target, No. 22 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, promoted Jason Goldberger to the new position of chief digital officer. Goldberger has steadily advanced since he joined the retail chain as senior vice president of Target.com and mobile in February 2013. In December 2014, he was promoted to president of Target.com, and now he’s part of the C-suite.

Target’s improved performance and results in digital show the important gains we’ve made, but we know we need to continue building on that momentum,” Goldberger said. “In my new role, I will keep pushing our strategy and capabilities so we can accelerate digital’s role in making Target an easy, inspiring, convenient place to shop.”

Since Goldberger joined the retailer, Target’s online sales have surged to $2.51 billion, up 75.5% from an Internet Retailer-estimated $1.43 billion in 2013.

Target is a finalist for the Omnichannel Retailer of the Year Award at the second annual 2016 Internet Retailer Excellence Awards, which will be announced June 8 at a banquet at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place hotel in Chicago as part of the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition.

Target, which files its first quarter earnings Wednesday, reported in its Q4 2015 earnings in February that online sales accounted for 3.4% of revenue, up from 2.6% in Q4 2014.
