After co-founding and leading web grocer Peapod since 1989, Andrew Parkinson moves into an advisory role as a former J. Crew web executive takes over as president and general manager.

Power has changed hands at web grocer Peapod.com. Longtime president and general manager Andrew Parkinson, who along with his brother Thomas co-founded Peapod, No. 69 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, in 1989, has stepped down from his post and will serve as an adviser and work on business development opportunities.

Replacing Parkinson as Peapod’s president is Jennifer Carr-Smith, most recently chief operating officer for the e-commerce business of apparel and accessories retailer J. Crew Group Inc. (No. 52). Prior to J. Crew, Carr-Smith worked as chief operating officer for Gilt Groupe (No. 68) and in various positions at Ralph Lauren Corp. (No. 59) and Drugstore.com, now part of Walgreen Co. (No. 4).

Peapod was acquired in 2001 by Dutch grocer and general merchandise retail chain Royal Ahold NV, No. 15 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Europe 500 Guide.

In recent years Parkinson has worked with Ahold to use Peapod’s e-commerce platform and knowledge of e-commerce activity to update Ahold’s European online operations, which include mass merchant Bol.com and grocery store chain Albert Heijn

Peapod generated Internet Retailer-estimated 2014 web sales of $649.4 million, which accounted for 41.6% of Ahold’s e-commerce sales last year of $1.56 billion (1.40 billion euro).
