Users of the popular taxi-hailing app in Chengdu can get a free ride from Kaola.com and also free samples of its products.

In China’s southwestern city of Chengdu, Uber users this month could click a specific button inside Uber’s mobile app to request a free ride in a recreational vehicle customized by e-commerce company Kaola.com.

Kaola.com decorates the vehicle with samples of en products for women and children, and its salesperson on the vehicle will introduce its business and products to riders. Uber users can take a free sample with them when they reach the destination, according to Kaola.com.

“Uber has a large amount of users of huge buying power. Besides, Uber users like to try new and high-end products. They match our target consumers perfectly,” a Kaola spokesman says.

Launched in January, Kaola.com sells imported products online and is operated by Chinese web portal and online game company NetEase Inc.

NetEase says it has experienced “remarkable recent revenue growth from services related to e-commerce.” Although it did not break out e-commerce sales, NetEase reports its combined sales from e-commerce and email services grew 278% to $72 million in the first quarter of 2015 compared with a year earlier.

Uber Technologies Inc. also grew extremely fast in China. Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said this month that Uber is “adding tens of thousands of cars to the roads every day” in China, and there are 42,000 Uber drivers in Chengdu compared with 26,000 in New York City and 22,000 in San Francisco.
