The web-only retailer of shoes, accessories, bags and clothing hires Paras Mehta as chief technology officer.

ShoeBuy.com Inc. has named Paras Mehta chief technology officer, a new position. It’s a role he’s somewhat familiar with at Boston-based ShoeBuy, No. 105 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, because he had been working with the online retailer as a consultant on search engine optimization and marketing initiatives.

“Through my experience in maintaining high-performance websites for leading e-commerce companies, I will bring tools to ShoeBuy to enhance and deliver exactly what our customers want and need—propelling ShoeBuy to the next level in the online retail space,” said Mehta, who has 15 years of IT experience, including seven years with IBM Global Services, where he built and managed systems for e-commerce companies, including several Internet Retailer Top 100 companies. He also managed his own IT consulting firm, where he led the development of e-commerce and Java applications at Staples (No. 4) and its Quill unit, which serves small and medium businesses.

At Shoebuy, Mehta oversees the Infrastructure & Security, Software Engineering, Product Management, and Quality Assurance teams, and he is in the process of growing the Infrastructure and Software Engineering teams, according to the company.

Mehta will build on customer-focused initiatives, including performance and site optimization, and enhanced site user interface and navigation to better customize shopping on ShoeBuy.com. He also will ensure products are properly marketed on the site, ShoeBuy says.

“As the brand sets its sights on leading the e-commerce space, our CTO will ensure that our technologies and infrastructure are aligned with and support our key growth objectives. With Paras’ background in designing and building industry-leading e-commerce solutions, we’re thrilled to have him on board,” CEO Mike Sorabella said.
