Avid Technology has relaunched multiple online stores for its academic, corporate and consumer markets on an e-commerce platform that integrates with Salesforce.com’s CRM application.

Avid Technology Inc., which sells technology for managing and distributing online media content to schools, corporate employee groups and consumers, has relaunched online stores for each market on a new Internet-hosted platform designed for rapid site development, Avid says.

“Avid was looking for an agile, cloud e-commerce solution that supports our IT strategy for rapid development, quick value to the business and global scalability,” says Jonathan Thomas, chief information officer.

Avid replaced on-premise e-commerce software with an Internet-hosted platform from CloudCraze, which was developed on the Salesforce1 development platform from Salesforce.com Inc., the provider of Avid’s online customer relationship management technology. The integrated CloudCraze and Salesforce CRM technology has enabled Avid to more quickly introduce new online features and content while also connecting with the needs of customers to manage transfers of digital media as recorded in its CRM technology, Thomas says.

The three new online stores, for example, feature content in six languages and five currencies. “We’ve achieved a five-month return on investment, and have been able to quickly rollout new features to support our business evolution to digital fulfillment,” Thomas says.

Industry analysts including Andy Hoar of Forrester Research Inc., who specializes in B2B e-commerce technology, have cited CloudCraze as an emerging provider of technology designed to quickly build online stores that work with software from Salesforce.com.
