Shoppers who turn to the web to stock up on chocolate eggs, bunny suits and holiday décor for Easter this year will spend on average $225.64 in total—64% more than the average for all Easter shoppers, $137.46, according to a new survey from Shop.org. In fact, online Easter shoppers will spend more on average in every category of goods, the survey says.
Shop.org is the e-commerce arm of trade group the National Retail Federation. It surveyed 6,837 U.S. adults online from March 4-11 about their Easter shopping plans.
Online Easter shoppers also plan to spend 25% more for the holiday this year, which falls on April 20, compared with last year, while all Easter shoppers will increase their spending by just 13.3%, the survey says.
Additionally, 12.2% of the survey respondents who own smartphones say they’ll use those devices to purchase Easter items this year, as will 19.2% of tablet owners. More owners of both types of devices will use them to research Easter purchases, if not complete them, say 23.4% of smartphone owners and 30.2% of tablet owners.
