New App Allows Customers to Transform a Room with Ease

Northbrook, IL – June 6, 2013 – Crate and Barrel, the leading destination for home furnishings, accessories and decor, announces the launch of its new 3D Room Designer App for iPad, a tool for users to redesign any room in their home with the brand’s furniture and accessories. By inputting just one measurement (room height) users are able to transform a digital photo of their own space into a 3D “virtual room.” They can select from more than 3,000 3D models of Crate and Barrel items, alter fabric and colors, and pair them with current furniture and accessories, ensuring that the products will work together before purchasing. In just a few minutes, customers quickly can see a true-to-life view of their design.

The new app for iPad will be available for free on the App StoreSM. The app allows customers to experience the same benefits and ease of use as the in-store and web-based program, but with the following added features:

• Easy browsing of product photos, details, and upholstery options
• Ability to select custom wall color and floor material
• Sharing functionality via email, Facebook or Twitter
• Ability to add items to cart and purchase

Launched in the spring of 2012, the Crate and Barrel 3D Room Designer won the 2012 Moxie Award for Best Corporate Digital Innovation. The app was created in collaboration with NedSense LOFTTM, a technology design firm chosen by Crate and Barrel for their ability to transform a 2D image into a 3D one with ease, and developed in partnership with Branding Brand.

“Customers have responded positively to the program since we launched in stores last year. More than 24,000 rooms have been created by customers with a furniture associate and 8,000 by web users at home. Today, we are thrilled to launch our first tablet app, which combines this unique functionality with the interaction and usability of an iPad,” said John Seebeck, Crate and Barrel VP of eCommerce.

To create a 3D model of their room, customers simply upload an image of their space from their iPad Photo Library—the image must show the floor, ceiling and at least two walls—and indicate the height of the room. A selection of empty digital rooms is also available. Once this is created, the app will allow users to remove existing items from the image, add pieces from Crate and Barrel product offerings, and change the wall color and flooring. Then users will be able to print and share their spaces with friends, to add the items to their crateandbarrel.com cart and complete the purchase using the app.

Currently, more than 3,000 Crate and Barrel products are incorporated into the 3D Room Designer App for iPad, including items from the current furniture collections and key furniture accessories, viewable in all materials and fabrics available.
