The daily deal operator launches Groupon Reserve, which offers high-end deals.

With recent reports suggesting that daily deals appeal to the affluent, Groupon Inc. is apparently taking notice.

The daily deal operator today launched Groupon Reserve, an invitation-only service featuring offers for high-end food and restaurant deals. For instance, the first offer is a $70 three-course tasting menu for two at Bice in New York City, about half the cost of a typical meal at the fine dining Italian eatery, according to the restaurant.  However, the deal is valid only at certain hours.

Unlike Groupon’s other offerings, which feature irreverent commentary, Groupon Reserve provides a straightforward history of the restaurant and the offer.

The launch comes only a few weeks after LivingSocial launched a similar site, LivingSocial Gourmet, which features deals that typically range from $100 to $200 per person. Other deal operators operating in the high-end space include Gilt Groupe’s Gilt City. Gilt is No. 49 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
