E-commerce and marketing chief Patrick Snyder will assume a new role as special advisor.

Cabela’s Inc. will soon be in the market for a new chief marketing and e-commerce officer.

Cabela’s, No. 40 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has announced that current chief marketing officer Patrick Snyder, who also oversees e-commerce, will transition to a new role as special advisor to CEO Tommy Millner before retiring in 2013.

Snyder will continue to oversee e-commerce and marketing during the transition, but Cabela’s also will hire a new executive vice president to be in charge of all marketing and web operations, the retailer says.

Snyder was named an executive vice president and chief marketing officer in January 2010. From July 2009 to January 2010, Snyder worked as senior vice president of merchandising and marketing. He also has worked as senior vice president of merchandising, marketing and retail operations, and as senior vice president of merchandising. From 1996 to July 2003, he was director of merchandise for clothing. Snyder joined Cabela’s in 1981 as a product manager.

In 2010, Snyder earned total compensation of $1.68 million, including a base salary of $475,000, a bonus of $158,334, stock and option awards valued at $531,200, and $510,625 in non-equity executive plan compensation. These numbers are from Cabela’s 2010 proxy statement filed in April with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
