Grocery conglomerate Albertsons Companies Inc. has been putting more emphasis on e-commerce in recent years. In early 2017, Albertsons hired Narayan Iyengar as its new senior vice president of digital marketing and e-commerce, replacing Tamara Pattison, who left in June. Iyengar had spent the past three plus years as vice president of e-commerce at Disney. Albertsons was recently named one of seven grocers to take part in a pilot program designed to enable participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—formerly known as the food stamp program—to buy groceries online. The company operates stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia under 19 banners.
