U.K. fashion e-retailer bought online women’s apparel retailer Nasty Gal for $20 million in a deal that will become final at the end of February 2017. Nasty Gal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November. A Boohoo spokeswoman confirms that Nasty Gal will continue to operate as a standalone pure-play e-commerce site, praising the brand’s edginess as a competitive advantage. Boohoo, based in Manchester, England, draws inspiration from Zara’s industry-leading speed of design—then makes it even faster. After ordering a broad range of products in small quantities, over half of which are made in the U.K., Boohoo puts them on sale and orders more of the ones that sell and stops buying those that don’t.
