Cheers to never running out of beer.

Bud Light unveiled an Internet-connected refrigerator this week, the Bud-e Fridge, that tells consumers how much beer is left in it.

The refrigerator, which is only available in California, connects to Wi-Fi and is tied to the Bud-e fridge mobile app for iOS and Android. The Bud-e Fridge, $599, continuously updates how much beer remains and sends a consumer an alert on his smartphone when the refrigerator is running low. Consumers have to pair the smart device to their smartphones in order to get real-time updates.

The app also has an alarm that alerts the owner if the door is opened and the stock count changes, meaning someone just took a beer from the fridge. Once new cans or bottles are added to the refrigerator, a consumer can set an alert to be notified when the beer is cold. The fridge defaults to 32 degrees, but consumers can pick from five options for the temperature they consider right for their brew.

As Bud Light is a sponsor of the National Football League, the app allows football fans to connect their fridge with an NFL team. When games for that team are approaching, the Bud-e Fridge will send an alert to the fan’s smartphone telling him how many beers are left in the fridge.

Stocking the refrigerator correctly is critical to it keeping track of the number of beers inside. The mini-fridge has three shelves and can hold up to 78-Bud Light 12-ounce bottles or cans. The refrigerator was designed specifically for 355 milliliter and 12-ounce Budweiser and Bud Light bottles and cans. Consumers can try stocking the refrigerator with other beverages, but the results could vary with different types of packaging, Bud Light says.

Each shelf has a stocking row with a push-back lever, similar to how shampoo is stocked at grocery store, and the remaining bottles move forward when one is taken. When a beer is added, the lever is pushed back, and it moves forward when one is removed.  A sensor detects how far the lever is from the door, which is how the refrigerator can inform the owner how many beers are left in the fridge.

The Bud-e Fridge app is also linked with beer delivery service app Saucey. If a consumer living in San Francisco, L.A. or San Diego sees his fridge is low on beer, he can order more through the app’s connection to Saucey.

Product designers Buzz Products Pty Ltd. designed the smart fridge Ling IQ, which it licensed to Bud Light and Budweiser for this Bud-branded product. A Bud-e Fridge that has Budweiser branding on it is already live in Canada.
