Target rolls out its next day delivery service in Minneapolis

Target Corp.’s next-day delivery service has launched in its hometown of Minneapolis.

Target, No. 20 in the 2017 Internet Retailer Top 500, last month said it would offer Target Restock, which is a program that allows shoppers to choose from more than 10,000 household products and then have their purchase delivered to them from a Target store by the next day for a flat fee of $4.99. There is no minimum order threshold, and shoppers must have a Target REDcard credit card and Target.com account to use the program.

The retailer is using UPS Inc. to make those next-day deliveries and will test other courier services at some point, a Target spokesman says.

“Target Restock is all about making the Target run easier and helping our guests save time in their busy lives,” said chief information and digital officer Mike McNamara. Target did not say when it plans on expanding the program to other markets.

Target Restock could also be about better leveraging Target stores to fulfill online orders. Last month, Target reported online sales grew by 21.5% to $688.7 million during the fiscal first quarter of 2017 and accounted for 4.3% of overall sales, up from $566.9 million during the same time last year, when online accounted for 3.5% of total sales.
