Third-party logistics (3PL) provider O’Neill Logistics will deploy 24 mobile robots from warehouse automation vendor Robust.AI in New Jersey and Georgia facilities as it seeks to improve order fulfillment efficiency and support retail and direct-to-consumer operations.
Robust.AI said in an announcement that O’Neill Logistics will use the Carter model of robots in facilities in New Jersey and Georgia. The companies plan for the deployment to go live in Q4 this year.
O’Neill Logistics operates about 2 million square feet of distribution space nationally. Robust.AI uses AI for robot-driven warehouse automation.
“We needed automation that would make our associates more productive without adding complexity to the floor,” said Stephen Reilly, director of industrial engineering at O’Neill Logistics, in the announcement. “Robust.AI’s system-directed picking, light-directed putting, and the ability to run a lean fleet gave us everything we were looking for. We’re confident this is the right platform to grow with as our business scales across both sites.”
Deployment targets retail and omnichannel fulfillment
Robust.AI said the deployment will support both retail and direct-to-consumer (DTC) fulfillment operations in Monroe, New Jersey. In Savannah, Georgia, the robots will support omnichannel order fulfillment at a 1 million square-foot facility.
The Carter robots will support O’Neill Logistics’ warehouse associates, Robust.AI said. It said the robots will:
- Automate repetitive material handling tasks
- Reduce unproductive walking
- Enable faster and more flexible order fulfillment
Robust.AI called its Carter model “a collaborative mobile robot.” The company said it designed the model to support existing warehouse operations and workforces.
“Carter’s software-defined functionality allows facilities to operate via order fulfillment picking, point-to-point transport, and mobile sorting without additional hardware investment,” according to Robust.AI.
Carter’s capabilities enable O’Neill Logistics to deploy models quickly and scale flexibly based on customer demand, according to Robust.AI.
Anthony Jules, co-founder and CEO of Robust.AI, said in the announcement that his company works to build automation “that works for people, not just around them.”
