Honeywell has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled Smart Shopping Platform that it designed to help retailers connect digital product data with in-store shopping and operations, expanding the company’s push into software-driven retail technology.

It developed the platform with Google Cloud and systems integrator 66degrees. The brand’s platform uses Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI to guide shoppers through stores, surface product information and suggest alternatives when items are out of stock, Honeywell said.

It designed the Smart Shopping Platform to run on Honeywell mobile devices and deploy as a cloud-based service. Honeywell said it intends for the platform to bring search, recommendations and navigation — features common in ecommerce — into physical stores without requiring retailers to develop custom artificial intelligence systems.

How Honeywell is using AI in its Smart Shopping Platform

Shoppers using supported Android-based personal shopping devices can link loyalty accounts to receive recommendations based on purchase history and available promotions, the company said. The platform can also provide in-store navigation to help customers locate products more efficiently.

According to Honeywell, retail associates can use the system on handheld devices to access:

The company said this allows store employees to assist customers directly on the sales floor without relying on printed materials or separate systems.

Honeywell, with the technology companies, built the platform on its Mobility Edge hardware and software environment. It integrates with Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure. Honeywell said it designed the platform to connect a retailer’s existing digital product data with in-store workflows rather than require new, standalone technology deployments.

“This platform is focused on using AI to reduce friction for shoppers and store staff by linking digital data with the physical store environment,” said David Barker, president of Honeywell Productivity Solutions and Services.

Jose Gomes, vice president of retail and consumer packaged goods at Google Cloud, said the collaboration applies AI to retail-specific hardware and operational workflows.

Honeywell said the Smart Shopping Platform will be available beginning in February. The company did not disclose pricing, customer commitments or pilot deployments.

The launch adds to Honeywell’s broader expansion into software-based productivity tools for retail, logistics and supply-chain operations. It also reflects Google Cloud’s growing role in providing AI infrastructure for commerce and store operations.

Honeywell operates across aerospace, industrial automation, building technologies and safety solutions. Google Cloud provides cloud infrastructure and AI services to enterprises worldwide.
