Roundup: Airbnb gains Amazon’s head of Prime and other personnel changes

Amazon.com Inc’s global head of Prime membership, Greg Greeley, is leaving the retail giant to join Airbnb Inc. In his new position, he will be “president of homes” of its flagship operation for offering short-term rental accommodations, according to Airbnb.

Although Greeley has been with Amazon for 18 years, he held the position of vice president of Amazon Prime Worldwide since 2013. During his time with Amazon, he helped create the Prime membership program, ran international expansion at Amazon and Amazon’s European division and worked on Whole Foods’ integration with Amazon Prime.

“It has been an amazing and inspirational experience, but the time has come for me take on a different challenge,” Greeley wrote in his announcement on LinkedIn. “It was Jeff Bezos’ heartfelt 1997 Letter to Shareholders that ultimately drew me to Amazon, and I have not regretted that decision for even a nanosecond.

Greeley’s first day at Airbnb will be March 18, reporting directly to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.

“In this role, he will support our community of hosts and guests as we work to make Airbnb for everyone, including the newly launched Airbnb Plus, Airbnb Collections, our expanded Superhost program and the forthcoming Superguest program,” Chesky wrote in a statement.

“Even among an amazing and diverse slate of candidates, Greg stood out for his phenomenal customer-first approach, global operations excellence, and a decades-long commitment to developing and mentoring talented leaders,” he says.

Amazon is No. 1 in the Internet Retailer 2017 Top 1000.
