Another North Carolina health system is making seeing an urgent care doctor a digital experience.
In recent months, several of the states biggest health systems including Carolinas Health System, Duke University Health System and others have put in place online systems that allows patients to electronically book a reservation at all urgent care centers or other locations.
Now the latest regional health system to roll out a similar platform is UNC REX Healthcare, which operates a 600-bed hospital, five wellness centers, two skilled nursing facilities focusing on rehabilitation and long-term nursing care, urgent care centers, and wound healing and emergency care facilities in and around Raleigh.
UNC REX also has facilities for treating cancer, heart and vascular, womens care, surgical services (such as bariatric and heartburn), orthopedic, neurology, pain management and sleep disorders.
UNC REX is rolling out an online reservations system for five of its walk-in clinics in Cary, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Wakefield and Raleigh.
Patients will be able to visit rexhealth.com/wait-times and view current wait times and reserve an arrival time based on availability.
We hope this new online reservation system will cut down the wait times, help accommodate families busy schedules and improve the overall experience for our Express Care patients, says REX Express Care medical director Dr. Linwood Watson. We want our patients to be able to wait at home or in a convenient place for their appointments if they choose.
The system will text reminders to patients prior to their scheduled arrival times, Watson says. If the patient is running late or needs to reschedule, there is an option to select the next available time slot. The REX Express Care offers a reservation time, though not a guaranteed appointment time, Watson says. Prior to seeing a provider, all patients will check-in at a computer kiosk, Watson says.
This system aims to increase transparency, which is a welcome feature when someone is ill or a family member isnt feeling well, Watson says.
