Wal-Mart previews its Black Friday deals online

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is giving online shoppers something to look forward to on Thanksgiving besides a hearty meal.

The retail giant, No. 3 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, today gave its app users a peek at most of its Black Friday deals, which it will begin selling online at 12:01 a.m. PT on Thanksgiving. Among the deals offered:

Shoppers who use Wal-Mart’s app will have plenty of time to get their wish lists and budgets ready for those Black Friday deals. According to Internet Retailer’s 2015 Mobile 500 Guide, Wal-Mart did an estimated $1.430 billion in sales through its app last year.

“Our customers can count on us to deliver three things on Black Friday. We’re offering amazing prices, we bought deeper on the gifts they want and we simplified the shopping experience in stores and online,” Steve Bratspies, chief merchandising officer of Walmart U.S. said in a blog post.

The move comes three days after competitor Target Corp. (No. 16 in the Top 500 Guide) ran a one-day-only early Black Friday sale with deals on select items. While Wal-Mart is following Target’s lead by offering online shoppers a head start on Black Friday shopping by offering Black Friday deals in advance of the actual day, it’s not budging on free shipping. Target offers free shipping on all online orders through Christmas, while Wal-Mart has a $50 order minimum to obtain free shipping.
