The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the South Dakota v. Wayfair tax case on April 17th. A ruling is expected by mid-June 2018.
The outcome has the potential to affect how states can tax online sales by e-commerce sellers, as well as other out-of-state merchants.
With the rapid growth of e-commerce and online selling, the marketplace for both businesses and the states have changed dramatically since 1992 when the Quill Corp v. North Dakota decision was made.
