Launched in 2013, Home Chef is a fresh ingredient and recipe subscription service. The service delivers meal boxes that include portioned ingredients and step-by-step instructions for customers to cook at home. Subscribers create a profile online, specifying taste preferences and dietary restrictions, and they can choose from Home Chef’s menu of recipes or let the company’s software pick meals based on their profiles. In 2016, the company raised $50 million from investors and delivered 1.5 million meals a month. It also opened a distribution facility in Atlanta, joining facilities in Los Angeles and Chicago. The company now has more than 600 employees.
