This chart shows how many seasonal employees six large retailers hired during the 2013-2017 holiday seasons.

Target Corp. this week announced its seasonal hiring plans for 2017, saying it will hire about 100,000 employees this year, almost 35% more workers than it hired for the same period last year.

Of those hires, 4,500 positions will be at the retailer’s distribution centers, which typically fulfill online orders. Target’s 104,500 employees is a 34.8% increase from the approximately 77,500 employees it hired in 2015.

Target is one of many retailers that publicize holiday hiring plans. Internet Retailer has collected retailers’ announcements since 2013.

This chart shows six large retailers—Amazon.com Inc., No. 1 in the Internet Retailer 2017 Top 500; Target (No. 20); Macy’s Inc. (No. 6); Kohl’s Corp. (No. 18); Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (No. 3) and Toys R Us Inc. (No. 38).  Note that not all retailers have announced 2017 hiring plans, and some did not publish 2016 figures either.
