MediKeeper Inc. is adding deeper data analysis capability to its employee health and wellness portal.

To do that Medikeeper has reached an agreement with data warehouse service provider Human Factor Analytics to resell its platform and to develop more detailed analytics about employees behavior and health risks that administrators can use to better manage employee benefits.

As a MediKeeper client, Human Factor Analytics will resell MediKeepers platform to its client base, which includes benefits brokers, employees and risk managers, Medikeeper says.

The two companies will also work together to provide users of MediKeepers health information management platform such information as the impact wellness programs have on reducing employee health insurance claims and the potential return on investment for wellness programsanalysis that goes beyond what MediKeeper currently provides about employee benefits usage, says MediKeeper CEO David Ashworth.

Deep dive analytics has been a missing element in managing wellness programs, Ashworth says. This kind of analysis can help companies better understand where to spend their money on wellness programs.

MediKeepers portal provides companies with data to identify unhealthy behaviors among employees, employees at risk of disease and employees overall health.

Employees can use the portal to look up benefits information, enter data from wearable fitness devices, sign up for health coaching and engage in games and social challenges to earn rewards aimed at incenting them to make use of wellness programs.

Benefits administrators can use data gathered through MediKeepers health risk assessment, which asks questions about an employees lifestyle, demographics and medical history, to calculate their risk for up to 16 diseases and conditions and provide suggestions for lowering their risk. Administrators can also send Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, or HIPAA, compliant messages through the portal to targeted groups of employees at risk for certain health conditions to motivate them to take advantage of wellness programs that can lower their risk of contracting the condition or disease. Administrators can target employees using more than 3,000 criteria, such as men over 50 at risk for diabetes, Medikeeper says.

MediKeeper, which targets wellness program providers, health plans, health benefits brokers, third-party administrators and employers, has contracted with 40 companies that have resold its platform to more than 1,000 companies. Customers include Healthways Inc., a provider of fitness and health improvement programs to such companies as FedEx Corp., Avera Health, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based health system; Movement for Life, a private practice outpatient physical therapy company: and Tempe, Ariz.-based Maricopa County Community College District.
