The app includes 3D models of sneakers and a product catalog that's navigable with eye tracking and hand gestures.

StockX announced a new immersive shopping app for the Apple Vision Pro, it said March 4. The online marketplace is among the first to integrate Apple’s augmented reality (AR) headset into shopping.

The app “features an immersive sneaker showcase with 3D models of top releases, a rich product browse and discovery experience, live and actionable market data, and a ‘Shop the look’ feature that allows users to browse user-generated content from customers around the world in a stunning 4K display,” StockX said in a statement.

StockX is No. 23 in Digital Commerce 360’s Global Online Marketplaces Database, ranking the 100 largest such marketplaces by third-party gross merchandise value (GMV).

How does StockX’s Vision Pro app work?

The StockX app is designed to recreate some elements of in-person shopping, the marketplace said.

“Nothing replaces the feeling of picking a sneaker off the shelf and holding it in your hands, but this new experience comes very close,” said Greg Schwartz, StockX president and chief operating officer. “Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at StockX. We were the first to introduce stock market mechanics to the resale space, and we’re proud to be one of the first marketplaces to launch a spatial app for Apple Vision Pro. It’s everything you know and love about StockX, but in an entirely new dimension,” he added.

The StockX Vision Pro app’s features will include:

  • 3D models of sneakers that will appear on shelves inside the user’s home using AR. Users can interact with the shoes and examine the detailing.
  • Product catalog that’s navigable with eye tracking and hand gestures.
  • Interactive graphs and sales information with market data from StockX.
  • High-resolution shoppable outfits.
  • In-app purchasing.

StockX created the Vision Pro app with an in-house team of product designers and engineers, it said. Designers started working on the project in December 2023, ahead of the headset’s February release.

What’s next for the app?

In future iterations of the app, StockX plans to add selling capabilities for the Vision Pro. There are also plans for more customization options. Customers will be able to browse the same products as their friends using SharePlay in a future update, StockX said.

“In addition to being one of the first resale marketplaces to bring spatial shopping to market, the StockX experience offers a unique balance between immersive features and our core competencies,” said Drew Moore, senior director of product design at StockX. “We’re incredibly proud of how this first iteration came together, and we’re already looking forward to rolling out the next phase of features and updates,” he continued.

Other retailers with Vision Pro apps

Several online retailers have released Vision Pro apps to facilitate virtual stores and omnichannel experiences.

Lowe’s (No. 12 in the Top 1000) introduced a home design use case for the new headset. The hardware and home improvement chain’s Style Studio app allows Vision Pro owners to choose from preset kitchen designs created by stylists, or create custom designs from their own selections of materials, fixtures and appliances. Similarly, Wayfair’s (No. 10) Decorify app lets consumers upload photos of their homes and redecorate them in various styles using products available through Wayfair.

J. Crew (No. 85) released a virtual closet app. That experience encourages customers to style outfits on a virtual mannequin with input from stylists. E.l.f. Cosmetics (No. 951) took a slightly different approach. Vision Pro users can use its app to purchase e.l.f. products with Apple Pay and take part in paint-by-numbers activities and guided meditation.
