Although its parent company is based in Great Britain, nearly all the revenue for plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) products distributor Ferguson Plc is based in the United States.
And last year, both total and ecommerce revenue grew nicely for Ferguson, especially in the U.S.
For the 2021 fiscal year ended July 31, Ferguson, which generates 94% of all sales in the U.S., grew total revenue year over year by 14.3% to $22.792 billion from $19.940 billion in fiscal 2020. U.S. revenue grew by 13.9% to $21.478 billion from $18.857 billion in fiscal 2020.
Total sales grew, but ecommerce grew even faster and accounted for a larger slice of the total U.S. sales pie. In fiscal 2021, ecommerce accounted for 21% of all U.S. sales compared with 19% in fiscal 2020, according to the company’s recently released annual report.
Long-term investments in ecommerce
Based on those metrics, Digital Commerce 360 projects that Ferguson’s ecommerce sales increased 25.9% to $4.510 billion in fiscal 2021 from $3.582 billion in fiscal 2020.
“Residential digital commerce generated exceptional growth, with strong demand from the project-minded consumer and light decorative professionals,” Ferguson says in its latest annual report.
Ferguson, which has its U.S. headquarters in Newport News, Virginia, has a base of 34,000 suppliers and a U.S. distribution network comprised of 10 distribution centers, 5,300 fleet vehicles, 1,470 branches and approximately 28,000 employees.
“We are continuing to invest in our ecommerce and omnichannel capabilities and other technology solutions, including investments in significant upgrades to our enterprise-wide resource planning systems, to simplify our customer propositions and to optimize the supply chain and branch network to deliver a more efficient business,” the company says.
