Proto Labs Inc., the Minneapolis-based product maker that bills itself as the most digitally advanced manufacturer and handles virtually all orders through ecommerce, has a new highly ranked female executive heading up a key business unit.

Protolabs has named Alex Cappy as its new vice president and CEO of Hubs, effective Oct. 1. Cappy had previously served as Hubs’ chief operations officer since 2019, overseeing the growth and performance of the company’s manufacturing partner network, order fulfilment processing, and customer and supplier support teams. She also will serve as a member of the senior leadership staff at Protolabs.

As part of the transition, former Hubs CEO Bram de Zwart will be the new head of innovation. Prior to Protolabs, Cappy earlier worked for Uber in the United Kingdom, where she headed up operations. She also has worked for Deliveroo, a food delivery company based in the U.K., as a consultant with McKinsey & Co., and as a supply chain analyst with Gartner. She holds a BA from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Wharton.
