John Tonnison, who helped build out the digital operations of prominent information technology distributor Tech Data Corp., has joined foodservice distributor US Foods as its chief information and digital officer.

“JT joins the executive team with more than 30 years of extensive experience leveraging technology to foster innovation, improve operational efficiencies and deliver exceptional service to customers,” said Pietro Satriano, chairman and CEO of US Foods. “He will be instrumental in driving our information technology vision forward as we deliver on our commitment to bring US Foods customers best-in-class digital commerce solutions.”

Tonnison spent nearly 20 years at Tech Data, a distributor of business and consumer technologies that sells to thousands of technology resellers, where he was executive vice president and chief information officer. Prior to Tech Data, Tonnison was vice president and chief technology officer for Technology Solutions Network.

Tech Data has agreed to combine with Synnex Corp., a distributor of I.T. and consumer electronics products, in a deal expected to close in the second half of this year.
