Gorilla is now a unit of Wunderman Commerce, a digital services agency that is part of WPP Plc, a multinational advertising and public relations firm.

Gorilla Group, a Chicago-based digital agency that’s done e-commerce site design and development work for such companies such as American Hotel Register Co., Cargill Salt (a unit of Cargill Inc.) and Gates Industrial Corp., has been acquired by Wunderman, a digital communications agency that is part of WPP plc, a London-based multinational advertising and public relations company.

Wunderman and WPP did not disclose the price paid for Gorilla Group, which Wunderman says generates annual revenue of about $40 million. Gorilla, now a part of Wunderman Commerce, designs and develops B2B and retail e-commerce sites on platforms from SAP, IBM, Salesforce.com and Adobe Systems Inc.’s Magento. It also works with configure-price-quote technology from FPX, marketing automation from HubSpot and product information management from Akeneo.

Wunderman Commerce builds enterprise-level retail and mobile commerce programs and helps companies develop Amazon.com-based marketing and e-commerce strategies. Its services also cover strategy, platform integration and e-commerce and related services for websites running Adobe, IBM Watson Commerce, SAP and Salesforce.com applications. Wunderman Commerce employs over 1,000 global e-commerce strategy, technology and creative workers and works with over 50 software and technology partners, WPP says.

Wunderman Commerce has offices in Seattle, the United Kingdom and India. WPP operates its main management office in London and its executive office in Dublin, Ireland.

Gorilla employs about 370 employees and has offices in five U.S. cities in addition to Chicago, plus locations in Canada, Poland and Ukraine. Gorilla Group works with enterprise B2B and direct-to-consumer brands across the manufacturing, distribution, apparel, retail, health & beauty, food and beverage sectors, WPP says. Its clients also include Applied Industrial Technologies, Dollar Tree Stores Inc., Lennox International Inc. and salt products distributor Salt Works.
