A notable and well-known online retailing executive is making the move to B2B e-commerce.
Based in Huntersville, N.C., American Tire Distributors is one of the nation’s largest independent suppliers of tires to the replacement tire market. American Tire operates more than 140 distributions centers across the U.S. and Canada—including 115 in the United States—has a fleet of more than 1,000 delivery vehicles and carries a product inventory of more than 40,000 SKUs. The company also says it has about 70,000 customers in the U.S. and Canada.
As the chief digital and technology officer at American Tire Distributors, Chin will report to CEO Stuart Schuette and be in charge of all information technology and the company’s digital strategy, though her exact duties weren’t detailed. “She will be responsible for developing and activating the tools that enable ATD’s continued digitization to deliver an unsurpassed associate and customer experience,” Schuette says. “She will support accelerating ATD’s position at the forefront of digital technology and disruption in the replacement tire industry.”
American Tire operates a diverse B2B e-commerce program that includes a dealer log-in site that enables dealers to view tire and wheel availability, access product information, search for product size, product number and place orders online. The dealer portal also features a tire and wheel fitting guide, the ability to generate and receive quotes and access accounts payable information.
Other B2B initiatives include ATD Services Bay, an online marketing center for independent distributors, and TireBuyer.com, a consumer e-commerce site. “Our strategy focuses on helping our customers thrive in a digital landscape that is constantly evolving, ´ Schuette says.
Chin brings a long track record in e-commerce management to her new job at American Tire Distributors. Chin served as senior vice president of digital at chain retailer PetSmart from Sept. 2016 until recently. Prior to PetSmart, Chin worked as senior vice president e-commerce and omnichannel digital at Belk Inc, a regional department store chain, and as vice president of QVC.com.
