Freshdeal and New York-based Fruitspot join forces to expand a fresh produce portal.

A Spanish company that connects fresh produce buyers and sellers online has made inroads in the U.S. through a partnership with New York-based Fruitspot.

Valencia, Spain-based Freshdeal.com announced last week it signed an agreement with Fruitspot for a business-to-business produce marketplace. Terms were not disclosed.

With the addition of Fruitspot.com, Freshdeal adds New York to its existing locations in Spain and Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, as it expands into the North and Latin America markets.

Freshdeal is designed to connect verified buyers and sellers so they can spend less time searching, discover more opportunities and start conversations more easily, says Freshdeal co-CEO and chief marketing officer Jose Baptista. Freshdeal users can evaluate potential trading partners by viewing company information and reviews and ratings posted by other customers.

Freshdeal says it monitors fruit and vegetable markets in and around its locations to help members quickly find opportunities to buy or sell. Participants complete a brief profile of their company and products and then receive daily notifications of sellers or buyers looking to connect. Buyer and seller then decide whether to pursue a transaction.

Account set-up is free. Freshdeal did not respond to a request for information about fees for sellers or buyers.

Freshdeal launched in 2015 and says it will connect more than 5,000 verified users in 2017. The company notes its wholesale produce marketplace helps reduce food waste by enabling producers to sell surplus produce quickly, avoiding spoilage.
