While e-commerce is growing quickly, the largest gains are concentrated at the top. Amazon.com Inc., for instance, accounted for roughly 37% of online sales from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday last year, according to Internet Retailer estimates.

That helps explain why Amazon was a focal point among the roughly 10,000 attendees at the 13th annual Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition (IRCE) in Chicago June 6-9.

Amazon’s actions ignited many speaker presentations on stage this year as attendees sought and found guidance on both competing and cooperating with the online retail giant. Other presentations tracked e-commerce trends such as the rise of online marketplaces and the increasingly visual nature of how consumers search and buy online.

More than 200 retailer, consultant and vendor speakers discussed the e-commerce landscape, from marketing to fulfillment to the latest on how artificial intelligence and machine learning are moving into e-commerce.
